I didn’t get very far with the sketchbook project because I didn’t have time to do both this and my diploma work. I’ve got a couple of things to show which are similar to what people have been doing. As part of my garden theme I took a photo of a red hot poker flower and machine stitched round the edges of the petals and stalk. I painted the stitched photo with ink and printed an image. I also tried rubbing the stitching but I think my paper was too thick for it to be effective.
The images below were created by covering paper with chalk pastel and then covering the pastel with wax crayon. A piece of paper was laid over this and the picture was drawn with a biro. The result is that the wax crayon gets lifted off on the reverse of the top piece of paper and on the bottom piece the pastel is exposed.
